VALVERDE DEL FRESNO. CÁCERES
RURAL TOURISM.
RESERVATIONS: Rebecca / Alfonso: 629 085 007 - 927 51 31 96

Dear friends,

Due to your next visit to the ´Caserío de la Ramallosa`, we are sending you this letter in order to inform you about some little facts that can meke your trip and stay a bit more comfortable. The descriptions are a bit long but they are very useful when one goes by car with a face which shows you are thinking you are reaching the M-30 of Tokio!!

HOW TO GET HERE FROM MADRID

From Madrid: Along the N-V motor way of Extremadura , until Km 185: Here we have to point out the fact that it is a bit difficult to get out from Madrid at this point at lunch time (Spanish lunch time: 15:00) until you get to Navalcarnero. It is convenient to set out as soon as possible to avoid the disgusting traffic jam at the beginning. It is not a bad idea to go until km103 where you can besides filling up , have a excellent sandwhich.
Getting back to Madrid on Sunday is not usually a problem, even if you get there in the rush hour..
As we were saying, we reach km185 where we can take a turning on the right towards Plasencia and Coria(EX-108).

In Malpartida de Plasencia, by the road, it is located the Cañada Real Hotel, where we can stop if it is necessary , there you can have lovely small sandwiches or ´montados`. The owner Felipe who is a very nice person, can advice you on his dishes ( one of the best cooks of the province).
Coria is less than 100 km from the motorway. It is not necessary to go across Coria. It has a new ring road. From here we continue toward Ciudad Rodrigo. 14 km after we cross Moraleja, it is not a very beautiful place but we have to go past it.

Right after passing Moraleja , near a tall factory chimney , instead of going straight you take a turning on the left ( with a roundabout on the right) toward Cilleros, a few meters away you will find a roundabout (now they are very fashionable) you turn right after it toward Cilleros again. You follow it and at the end in the very village there is the sign for Valverde del Fresno.
At last this is where we want to get, no miss. Before reaching the village you will find a petrol station on the right . you will continue unless you want to fill in. Right at the entrance of the village there is a curve turning on the left towards Portugal, CAUTION, because many people follow straight on and enter the village instead of taking this curve on the left. The Chemist´s is the critical point ( FARMACIA)… that is the way you have to take, past the village , about 2 km( 1.8 km exactly) you will see a very rustic sign on the left which reads ¨Caserío de la Ramallosa 11km , that is your way, though it is not 11km it is just 9 km as the country road has been rebuilt (look at your counter).
You will see a sign which reads ¨la Ramallosa`, it has an arrow which indicates that you have to turn left, it is just 200 metres more until the first turning on the right (it is signalled), 200 metres more you are already in the ´Caserío`, you are really there though you do not see it well .This is normal , it is the first time you come here it is not your fault! The signals can be easyly seen.

Time approximately from Madrid is 3 hours and a half until you get to Valverde. If you have any doubts or questions, do not hesitate to ask or phone our numbers on the top of the page.

We can arrange the arrival date and hour on the phone. Attached to this explanation there is a Map so that you get to La Ramallosa without any problems.

SOME OTHER THINGS...

The accomodation fee will be satisfied if possible on the arrival, and as there is no electricity and we do not have a visa card payment service you will have to take into account that the nearest cash dispensers are :

In Valverde in the Constitución Square or in Hoyos on the road.

Nowadays there is coverage for cell phones in the area but be careful because sometimes the phones connect with a Portuguese operator and it gets a bit more expensive to make a phone call. Take with you a film to take photographs, the landscape is worth taking pictures. Though it is obvious we strongly advice you to take proper shoes and clothes for the country . Once a girl came wearing high-heel and it got a bit difficult for her to walk without stumbling. A dressing gown, pyjamas or slippers are also advisable!!. They are very useful here at the beginning of the day.

If you like nature and bird watching binoculars would allow you to enjoy wide horizon lines and lovely landscapes. It is also the right place to use for the first time that walking stick they gave us and that we do not use in the city as we do not want to look like snobs. Here it is very useful the same applies to caps or hats. It is also advisable to take a small torch , batteries and a lighter to the Ramallosa as they are first necessity items there. If at night there is moon or full moon it is better not to take a torch as you will not allow the eye to get used to the intense and nice blue light. It is also convenient to leave at home some signalling candles , with big candle lights in the safe places that you will find conveniently displayed in all the rooms. But be careful with the long candles of the ceiling lamps and candelabra as they sometimes fall down. You never should leave any of these candles burning out of your sight.

During your stay enjoy the candle lights and the fireplaces as you wish but if you come with children we beg you to watch out as they are usually attracted by fire and other dangerous elements. Try also to prevent them from disturbing other guests. It is not our worker´s duties to do that for you. We say that because some parents leave their children do whatever they want without taking any notice.

Most of our bedrooms have a fireplace or a firewood stove. Before going to sleep it is advisable to open the windows for some fresh air if you notice theri is smoke. The logs should burn completely leaving the ashes to supply the heat. The logs which have not burnt completely are likely to provoke bad fumes or else fall down onto dangerous places. Therefore it is convenient to take them out of the fire place or to leave them to burn completely before going to sleep. Do not leave near the fireplaces anything that could burn such as clothes, wood, oil candles, etc. Following these indications there is no reason to worry about any dangers. All houses have a fire extinguisher, remember where it is. If you have not any experience setting a fire ask for help to any of our workers. Just to light it or to manipulate it.

If you need some drinking water, we advice you to ask for it to our staff. The fawcett water is drinkable but as it comes from a water tank it is better not to drink it.

It is not a bad idea to purchase here some traditional produces from this land: Virgin Olive Oil -exquisite- red sausages from Salamanca, honey (many different kinds), traditional fire wood baked bread. Sweets… To get them you just have to order them in advance, on Saturday the lattest.
